Replying to Chat

Send messages with formatting, emoji, attachments, and mentions in the chat sidebar or full-screen messenger.

Opening a Conversation

You can access chat from two places:

Sidebar chat -- Click the chat icon in the main navigation to open the collapsible sidebar panel on the calendar page.
Full-screen messenger -- Navigate to the messenger page for a dedicated messaging interface with a full contact list.

Select a contact from the list to load their conversation history. Messages appear in chronological order with timestamps and read indicators.

Composing a Message

Type Your Message

Type your message. The input field expands as your text grows.

Send the Message

Press Enter to send, or Shift+Enter to insert a new line.

Using Formatting

You can apply basic formatting to your messages:

Bold text by wrapping words with **double asterisks**.
Italic text by wrapping words with *single asterisks*.
Inline code by wrapping text with backticks.

The message preview updates in real time as you type.

Adding Emoji

Click the emoji picker button in the input toolbar to browse and insert emoji. You can also type standard emoji shortcodes directly in the input field.

Attaching Files

Select or Drop a File

Click the attachment button in the input toolbar, or drag and drop a file directly onto the message input area.

Preview the Attachment

A preview of the attachment appears before you send. Supported file types include images, PDFs, and common document formats.

Send with Attachment

Click Send to deliver the message with the attachment.

Type @ followed by a contact name to mention someone in a group conversation. The autocomplete dropdown appears as you type, showing matching contacts. Select a contact to insert the mention. Mentioned contacts receive a notification.

Tips

Drag and drop files directly into the chat area for quick attachment.

Replying to Chat

Keyboard shortcuts in the full-screen messenger let you navigate between contacts without using the mouse.

The AI assistant can be invoked in chat to generate suggested replies or summarize conversation threads. This is useful for quickly responding to routine messages or catching up on long conversations.

Messages are delivered via the WhatsApp Business API and synchronized in real time through WebSocket connections. See the integrations page for the full message flow and supported message types.
You can scroll up to load older messages. The conversation history loads progressively as you scroll.
